Do you like chilli?

These are the chillies that hang above the bench in my parents' kitchen. Every single one of them was grown in the backyard, but as they can't eat them as quickly as they grow, they are sewn onto a string and hung in the kitchen to dry. Don't they look awesome?!

  1. Those chilli strings make for interesting artwork. I'd love to try something like that in my own kitchen. Thanks for the idea, and thanks for visiting my site, as it brought me to yours. I love it!

  3. Gorgeous. Your parents should host a decorating tips show! (Or blog!)

  4. Yes! Dried chilis always look so wonderful. Almost like a necklace (although a rather painful one to wear).

  5. I LOVE chilli!! My mum grows copious amount of chilli and, like your parents, she dries them and then pounds them up to make the most awesome chilli powder. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

Never thought about their aesthetic qualities until you mentioned it.

  6. They do look awesome! I refrained from going hot chilis in backyard because the one year I did, I couldn't use them nearly as fast as they were coming. Now that I know what to do with the leftovers, I may have to rethink it!

Thanks for stopping by and voting for the Food Blog Awards!

  8. Hayley - The really are a feature in the kitchen!

Pam - I love them because you never seem to run out!

    HoneyB - me too!

Lee - lol! My parents painted sample colours on the walls of the kitchen and then took 10 years to decide that they didn't like any of them, so perhaps not!

Lorraine - I don't think I am willing to try that!

Maria - It sometimes seems a pity to use them as they look so nice!

Jessica - do it! You know you want to grow them again! And no probs :)

  9. I love that picture! Imagine just reaching up and plucking one every time you have a recipe that calls for a dried chili! Lucky!

  10. Sundry those chilies, and get them powdered! It'll be an excellent chilli powder for kimchi~! :)
